1884-1886 Studies under William Merritt Chase at the Art Students League in New York
1887 Travels to Paris and attends several Académies. He is also a pupil of Carolus-Duran.
1888 Accompanies Theodore Wendel to Giverny and stays at the Hôtel Baudy. Settles in the village and befriends Claude Monet.
1892 Marries Suzanne Hoschedé, Monet’s stepdaughter.
1893-1894 Birth of their chidren James and Alice.
1897 First solo exhibition at Galerie Vollard, Paris. Regularly exhibits in Paris.
1899 Death of Suzanne.
1900 Marries Marthe, Suzanne’s sister.
1913 The Butlers move to New York, where the artist had received commissions for decorative panels. Several solo exhibitions, participates in the Armory Showl.
1918-1921 Founder Member of the Society of Independant Artists.
1921 Returns to Giverny. |
