Flaubert’s Childhood home, company flat of his father, head surgeon of the ” Hôtel-Dieu ” from Rouen. In this emblematic place
he had his literary vocation and found inspiration.Family privacy : many portraits, paternal library, early works, medicine’s documents in Mrs Bovary, white marble monument of Chapu in the garden.
In 1884, Flaubert’s family settled into Croisset, that’s where Gustave Flaubert wrote all his work. When he died his niece sold the house, the garden house is the only one left standing in the ground. It has been bought by subscription and given to the city
of Rouen and then converted into a museum in 1906.
